NOTE: The Tournament will begin for the Kids at 10am. We will begin with explanation of the rules at that time. The kids will be scored per IBJJF rules. Please arrive about 15 minutes early.
The adults will begin at approximately 12 noon. Again, the adult matches will be submission only, no time limit.

Congratulations to the newest JaxBJJ Purple Belt: Sam “Sammy” Hutsell. Sam came to JaxBJJ as one of the originals a little over 3 years ago. He came to us with an extensive background in wrestling having wrestled collegiately for The Citadel. For those who have trained with Sam, know how deserving he is of this new belt. Great work Sammy!!

Once again Professor Flavio Almeida shared some of his knowledge with JaxBJJ Students. With gi and no-gi techniques, the seminar was enjoyed by all. Congrats to Jimmy Gibson for his 3rd Stripe on his Purple Belt and also to Nate Lang for his first stripe on his Purple Belt. The promotions were conducted by Professor Flavio. Also, earlier in the week, Dave Zavarella received his 4th Stripe on his Purple Belt. Great job to Zav, Jimmy and Nate!!

The children’s seminar will be from 10:00am until 11:00am and the adult seminar will be from 12:00pm until 3:00pm. Sign up at the Academy to reserve your spot. Professor Larry Shealy, who has been appointed as Florida’s State Chairman of USA Jiu-Jitsu, has announced that along with Charles dos Anjos, they will be hosting a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament in Jacksonville, in early 2009. Details to follow as dates, locations, etc. are announced. We are working in concert with our USAJJ friends in Georgia to put together a professional, well run, inexpensive tournament for the many people who wish to compete. More details to follow.

JaxBJJ will have seminars in Q4 with Charles dos Anjos, Flavio Almeida, and Chip Coffey. These seminars will cover Gi, No-Gi, MMA and Combat Conditioning. Seminars are open to all JaxBJJ members and will be first come first serve when the dates are announced and signups are posted. Also, Jason Frank will be returning in Q4 to work with our team and our Stand-up/Muay Thai Coaches.

The MMA and WPP Classes have taken off in a very big way!!! Each class brings new students and offers a natural fit with our BJJ, Muay Thai and F.I.G.H.T. curriculums. The MMA classes are on Wednesday at 6:00pm and Saturday at 1:00pm. The Women’s Personal Protection (WPP) Class is on Monday at 6:00pm. Davy Baute, a Purple Belt under Kazeka, who also trains with Braulio Estima has trained and shared alot of his tournament jiu-jitsu techniques with Team JaxBJJ. Davy, is visiting our friend Bobette (Babalu!) from Belgium........and has been a most welcome guest. Bobette recently completed our Kid-Jitsu Instructor Certification Bootcamp. We will also be adding an MMA/Street Fight class on Wednesday evenings from 615pm to 700pm. The MMA class will be for students with a minimum of 6 months BJJ experience at JaxBJJ. Mundial, PanAm Champion and ADCC runner-up Flavio Almeida was at JaxBJJ on Saturday for a seminar. Flavio is a 2nd degree black belt under Master Carlos Gracie, Jr. and is the Program Director for Gracie Barra America. He recently opened his new school in California: Gracie Barra-San Clemente. The seminar was a tremendous success and was enjoyed by all. In addition to the seminar, on behalf of Master Carlos Gracie, Jr., Professor Flavio promoted JaxBJJ Owner and Main Instructor Larry Shealy to Black Belt. Rumor has it that Marcio Feitosa and Kyra Gracie will be coming to JaxBJJ after the World Championships.........stay tuned!!!

The International Kid-Jitsu Association and the International TaeKwonDo Alliance have agreed to implement the Kid-Jitsu Program into the I.T.A. Schools as a minor field of study. The ITA has over 250 schools in the United States and Europe. In a press release, Kid-Jitsu Founder and CEO Larry Shealy said: “The addition of the Kid-Jitsu Program within the ITA is another great step forward for Kid-Jitsu in the traditional martial arts world. We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with this fine organization.”
