“As Real as it Gets” Tournament May 24thSaturday, May 03, 2008
ATTENTION all JaxBJJ members. We will have an in-house tournament on May 24, 2008. The tournament will run from 11am until????? Brackets will be made up by weights and expericence levels. The “As Real as it Gets” Tournament will have NO TIME LIMITS. All matches must be won by submission. With time being a factor in this format, the first 40 to sign up will participate. Kid-Jitsu/Wolfpack BJJ Association Founders, Professors Charles dos Anjos and Larry Shealy, held the largest seminar in their organizations brief history, with over 400 participants on April 23, 2008 in Mobile, Alabama. The 5 hour seminar was held at the Mobile Convention Center and was conducted for students and Instructors within the International Taekwondo Alliance at their spring festival. Grandmaster Bert Kollars said: “The I.T.A. is very pleased with our relationship with Professors Charles and Larry. Their technical and user friendly curriculum and approach to BJJ makes learning BJJ fun, and safe.”

It has been a great run for the Fernandina Beach Urban Legend, John “Blue” Williams. A strong competitor, wrestling coach in Fernandina Beach, and soon to be a JaxBJJ Satellite School Instructor, “Blue” was promoted to Purple Belt in todays morning class. Our BJJ for MMA (Vale Tudo) classes will begin on April 16 from 615pm to 700pm. This class will be in addition to all of our other BJJ Classes. Class is open to JaxBJJ students who have reached intermediate status and are approved to participate by Professor Larry Shealy.

The Women’s Personal Protection Seminar will be held on Saturday April 12th from 2-5pm. There are only a few spots left, so call now to reserve a space. (612-6076). The techniques that are taught at the seminar will be included in our Women’s Personal Protection Classes that are held on Monday nights from 615pm to 700pm. The classes are taught by Professor Larry Shealy and his wife, and blue belt in BJJ, Gail Shealy. Dress comfortably.

After spending time in California with Master Carlos Gracie, Jr., Professor Marcio Feitosa and Professor Flavio Almeida, completing our MMA curriculum; JaxBJJ is rolling out our BJJ for MMA classes. Thank you to Kohl Kaminshi and Jimmy Gibson for attending this seminar, and assisting in the dinner meeting with this famous threesome!! Fun at the Pan AmsTuesday, April 01, 2008
A couple of JaxBJJ students made the trek to Los Angeles with Professor Larry Shealy to compete in the Pan Ams. Kohl and Jimmy represented very well, with Kohl bringing home a Bronze Medal. They also attended a seminar with Master Carlos Gracie, Jr., Marcio Feitosa and Flavio Almeida and accompanied this famous trio to dinner. Our Kid-Jitsu Program was highly touted by Professor Flavio as he spoke highly of our program and asked us to assist in teaching his classes in San Clemente. The trip to California and Gracie Barra was very fun and very productive for JaxBJJ and the Kid-Jitsu Program.

Beginning the week of April 14, JaxBJJ will be adding 2 new classes to our curriculum. In addition to our BJJ, Muay Thai, Kid-Jitsu and FIGHT programs.........We will be adding a Women’s Personal Defense Class on Monday evenings from 615pm to 700pm..The Women’s Personal Defense Class will be an on-going class that is an extension of the Women’s Personal Defense seminars. We will also be adding an MMA/Street Fight class on Wednesday evenings from 615pm to 700pm. The MMA class will be for students with a minimum of 6 months BJJ experience at JaxBJJ. Find out the details about each class on your next visit to the Academy. Good Training!!

Rivers has been awarded the distinction of “Naval Air Station Jacksonville Male Athlete of the Year 2007” Selection for this award was based on participation in base, and community intramural sports, community volunteer work and professional accomplishments. Mundial, PanAm Champion and ADCC runner-up Flavio Almeida was at JaxBJJ on Saturday for a seminar. Flavio is a 2nd degree black belt under Master Carlos Gracie, Jr. and is the Program Director for Gracie Barra America. He recently opened his new school in California: Gracie Barra-San Clemente. The seminar was a tremendous success and was enjoyed by all. In addition to the seminar, on behalf of Master Carlos Gracie, Jr., Professor Flavio promoted JaxBJJ Owner and Main Instructor Larry Shealy to Black Belt. Rumor has it that Marcio Feitosa and Kyra Gracie will be coming to JaxBJJ after the World Championships.........stay tuned!!!

JaxBJJ’s trademark registered Kid-Jitsu made it’s way into one of the most popular Martial Arts Magazines in the World: Gracie Magazine. The November edition of the magazine, which is written in Portuguese and English, included a very favorable overview of the Kid-Jitsu Program that is being accepted and licensed into traditional martial arts schools all over the world. “Charles and I believe that to grow the sport, we must address the children” said founder Larry Shealy.

The International Kid-Jitsu Association and the International TaeKwonDo Alliance have agreed to implement the Kid-Jitsu Program into the I.T.A. Schools as a minor field of study. The ITA has over 250 schools in the United States and Europe. In a press release, Kid-Jitsu Founder and CEO Larry Shealy said: “The addition of the Kid-Jitsu Program within the ITA is another great step forward for Kid-Jitsu in the traditional martial arts world. We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with this fine organization.”

 Head Instructor BJJ Black Belt Larry Shealy began studying Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in 1995 at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, California. He is a Black Belt under the direction and instruction of Carlos Gracie, Jr, a Black Belt in TKD, a Certified Haganah F.I.G.H.T. Instructor, and a Certified Muay Thai Instructor under Master Toddy. Larry is a Professor and Certified Instructor in the Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu System. He has also learned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu technique from Rorion Gracie, Royce Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Royler Gracie, Rolker Gracie, Charles dos Anjos, Marcio Feitosa, Rodrigo Gracie, Carlos “Caique” Elias, Aparacido “Bill”, Flavio Almeida, and UFC fighter Junior Assuncao. He has traveled extensively in the United States and to Rio de Janiero, Brazil to further his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu studies. He has trained at the world famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies: Gracie Barra (Carlos Gracie Jr, Marcio Feitosa.) and Gracie Humataie (Royler and Rolker Gracie). In 2003, Larry developed the “Kid-Jitsu” program along with the “Kid-Jitsu Values Program”. These trademark registered programs allow traditional martial arts instructors to teach children the fundamentals of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, while weaving targeted values into each lesson within the “Kid-Jitsu” Curriculum. To date, Larry and his partner Charles dos Anjos, a Royce Gracie Black Belt, have certified over 250 Instructors in over 100 schools in the U.S. and Europe to implement Kid-Jitsu and the Wolfpack BJJ Association for Adults into their traditional martial arts curriculum. Larry has a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Florida State University and a Masters Degree in Business (MBA) from Jacksonville University. He has retired from the corporate world after 20 years and is now concentrating on sharing the many benefits of his traditional martial arts background along with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to children and adults. He is a past elected official in Neptune Beach, Florida having served on the Neptune Beach City Council. He is married to wife, Gail, and has 3 children Todd, Kristi, and Joshua. |

 Adult Assistant Coach, Certified Kid-Jitsu Instructor Blue Belt Chris is a blue belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. He works as an Art Director for a local television station and received his undergraduate degree from Savannah College of Art & Design. Chris assists in the Adult Fundamentals Classes, is a Certified Kid-Jitsu Instructor and is involved in the further development of the “Kid-Jitsu” Program.

 Assistant Muay Thai Instructor, Assistant BJJ Coach, Certified Haganah F.I.G.H.T. Instructor Blue Belt 2-Stripe, Muay Thai Assistant Instructor Nate Lang is a full time college student, 2-stripe blue belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and a Certified Assistant Instructor in the Haganah F.I.G.H.T. System. Nate is also very active in our Muay Thai program and MMA programs.

 Kru Jason David Frank Along with studying BJJ under Professors Larry Shealy and Charles dos Anjos, Kru Jason Frank is trained by Grand Master Toddy. He has been training in the Martial Arts for over 25 years. We are proud to have him as the Head Instructor of the Muay Thai Program at JaxBJJ. Jason is a highly decorated Martial Artist and Instructor, having spent his entire life honing his skills. Having multiple schools in Texas and California, Jason calls JaxBJJ his “East Coast Home” and we are pleased to have him directing our Muay Thai Program. Jason is also a certified Kid-Jitsu/Wolfpack Instructor and is a Blue Belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. AWARDS

 Assistant Instructor BJJ 2 stripe Blue Belt Robby Wentz is our “All American Tough Kid”. He is a 2 stripe blue belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, is very active in the Muay Thai program as an Assistant Coach. Robby is also an Assistant Instructor in our BJJ curriculum. Robbie has a B.A. in Finance and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Business. |
 BJJ Assistant Instructor, Takedown Coach, Muay Thai Coach Kohl Kaminski came to JaxBJJ with a very extensive wrestling background. With a bench press of over 500 lbs, Kohl also brings quickness and Technique to the power in his game. As a BJJ Purple Belt, Assistant Instructor, Takedown Coach, and Muay Thai Coach, Kohl brings an array of tools to assist in teaching our students: new and veterans.
